Open that photo then press Ctrl+B to open Color Balance, set properties like this:

You will get:

Create a new layer and set Blend mode: Screen

Pick Brush tool, set something like this:

Brush some colors in the picture, in this tutorial I used color blue, green, pink, red and set opacity 76%

Make a heart shape then Ctrl+Click on heart's layer

Select Background and press Ctrl+J 2 times

Move 2 heart layers to the top of layer palette

angelhair86@gmail.com said on 2008-05-15 12:05:57 This tutorial was extremely difficult. When doing the heart the instructions did not work and so I had to come up with another way to do it and it was a pain. I would never do the heart again. Also I am thinking this is because my image was smaller than the one this person used but when I did the outer glow rainbow effect it didn't work I ended up having to play around with the settings allot to get even a similar effect. To see my version of it just click on my link |

Rowan rowanmcdonald1991@hotmail.com said on 2008-07-10 09:07:44 I got lost from the heart instructions down: they just dont make sense. Something about ctrl+j and something random. It seems it doesn't work for others either. I really like the end result, can you please clarify instructions??? |

sea said on 2008-07-27 22:07:27 I found the tutorial just fine to go along with and create. I don't see where the confusion came from with the others but thanks so much! It turned out beautifully. |

Katie katie-blackmore@hotmail.com said on 2008-11-19 11:11:02 I love this effect but I find that adding the colour for me always comes out kinda.... blotchy!
BUT! I don't know if anyone else had this problem I have found a different technique that works just as well.
Basically, rather than add the colour yourself with the brush, create a new layer, set to 'screen' and do a gradient fill with the pale light spectrum. turn down the opacity to desired effect and just use a soft large eraser to remove anywhere you don't want the colour!
Thanks!!!!! |

Katie katie-blackmore@hotmail.com said on 2008-11-19 11:11:16 Sorry I have just read through the other comments. Personally I had no trouble apart from adding the colour. If anyone would like me to do this tutorial with a video for you please reply and I shall. But I won't bother if no one is up for it! haha! |

Angeline exodia812003@yahoo.com said on 2009-05-14 02:05:02 The tutorial is great for me but i do have a lil complication with the heart as well but figured it out eventually. After doing the heart, select selection tool and then right click on heart and select make selection. You can see the outline of the heart changed into little ants. (thats is how i call it). So u dun have to control click on the layer.
Anyway, thx again for the person that did this tutorial. I really like the heart effect. :) |

Me said on 2009-12-18 13:12:29 I am new to photoshop and to the tutorials but I found it very easy to follow. I think it was good overall. The layer mask for the heart may seem wrong but if you follow through with the rest of the steps, it will come through. |
